Posted on: July 24, 2010 | Category: miscellaneous | 6 Comments

A new Tweet-Parade; The best Tweets found on Twitter about new articles posted on the various blogs about webdesign, graphic design, typography and design in common.

The best way to keep track of these tweets is simply to follow me on Twitter. Also I see this as my personal bookmarks of great articles from the Community of the last period. The different articles and post are categorized by their main topics:

Webdesign, CSS, HTML, jQuery, etc.

Textarea Tricks (CSS) – Oh, <textarea>’s. How many quirks you posses. Here is a collection of nine things you might want to do related to textareas. Enjoy.

50 Useful JavaScript and jQuery Techniques and Plugins – We are regulalry collecting useful JavaScript and jQuery snippets, libraries, articles, tools and resources and present them in compact round-ups here, on Noupe. This time we are again covering some useful JavaScript and jQuery techniques, plugins and tools that may help you improve the user experience for your site.

CSS Media Queries & Using Available Space – We’ve covered using CSS media queries to assign different stylesheets depending on browser window size. In that example, we changed the layout of the entire page based on the space available. It isn’t required that we make such drastic changes with this technique though, so in this tutorial we’ll go over a design tweak with a smaller scope.

A Guide on Layout Types in Web Design - One of the most variable aspects of web design is the way in which we approach width and height in terms of measurements and flexibility. For many years, we have rotated between the benefits and pitfalls of using fixed, elastic, and liquid measurements in a quest to give optimal viewing experiences in highly varied situations, while balancing our need to control things in our web pages.

World-Wide Web Design: Hints and Tips for Designing a Cross Cultural Website – One of the key features of the World Wide Web lies in those first two words: ‘World Wide’. Your website can be viewed by anyone anywhere across the globe, from Manchester to Montreal, Mecca to Moscow. But that does not mean that each of your readers will interpret it in the same way.

Understanding border-image – The new CSS3 property border-image is a little tricky, but it can allow you to create flexible boxes with custom borders (or drop shadows, if that’s your thing) with a single div and a single image. In this article I explain how the border-image shorthand property works in today’s browsers.

Graphic Design, Brand Identity, Typography, etc.

Download Google Webfonts as TTFGoogle Webfonts is an awesome service – it’s free, it has some great fonts (though there are only a few fonts available) and the implementation is super easy. They also offer a great preview of all fonts, which is pretty helpful to select the right one, but there’s no official way to download the font file to be able to test it in Photoshop or whatever.

Logo – Its Elements and Inevitable Importance for your Business – A logo is a magical symbol that represents your company and provides the kind of image no other attribute of the business can provide. Your business’s identity is an important element of your business that communicates visually through a logo.

Do typefaces really matter? – To most people, typefaces are pretty insignificant. Yet to their devotees, they are the most important feature of text, giving subliminal messages that can either entice or revolt readers, says Tom de Castella.

Designing Style Guidelines For Brands And Websites – A website is never done. Everyone has worked on a project that changed so much after it launched that they no longer wanted it in their portfolio. One way to help those who take over your projects is to produce a style guide.

Jan Tschichold on the “perfect” way to lay out paragraphs, pages, and books - Typography guru Jan Tschichold on indenting paragraphs: The indent of the paragraph should be the em of the fount body. Omit indents in the first line of the first paragraph of any text and at the beginning of a new section that comes under a sub-heading ..

Learn the Basics: 25+ Sites And Resources To Learn Typography – Typography has been practiced and used in our daily life. Range from handwriting in a pocket notebook to the big advertising billboard. It’s sometimes typed using Times New Roman in 12 points for newspaper.

Blogging, Social Media, Wordpress etc.

20 Common Mistakes Made By New Bloggers – With a new blog starting every half second and with more than 175 million blogs on the Internet (is anyone still keeping track?) sometimes for a new blogger, it can be hard to stand out from the crowd.

10+ Must have Plugins that are Ready for Wordpress 3.0 - Wordpress 3.0 has been around for some time now and plugins that work well with it show up every day. One of the main concerns everyone has when relying on open source software like Wordpress is how hard it will be to upgrade to a new major release.

Understanding and Establishing Micro Goals for Your Social Media Campaigns – A few weeks ago I wrote a handful of articles on how to develop a proper social media strategy by developing goals, breaking those goals into supportive goalsand matching goals to appropriate tactics.

11 Ways to Speed Up WordPress - WordPress is inherently fast, and that’s why so many professional bloggers call it their choice platform. Like many new bloggers, I used to think that until I had enough traffic to make a difference, I’d worry about the bandwidth and site speed later.

A Complete Guide To Tumblr – Think of Tumblr as micro-blogging on steroids (technically, it’s called “tumblelogging”). Whereas Twitter and similar services limit posts to 140 characters or less, Tumblr lets you post updates of any length, although it’s best suited to short-format posts. Tumblr bridges the gap between full-blown blog and micro-blog.

Ten Quick Power Tips To Drive More Visitors To Your WordPress Site – This is the fourth part of An Essential Guide To WordPress SEO – in parts two and three I focused on some of the core concepts related to SEO that are applicable to all types of sites. In this post, I want to focus more specifically on the techniques you can use for optimizing a WordPress site to help push it up the search engine rankings.

SEO, Search Engine Optimalization, Rankings, etc.

Utilizing Twitter for SEO (A Very Effective Link Building Tactic for Tough Industries) – We all know that Twitter links are NoFollow and that until recently most SEOs have agreed that Twitter activity wasn’t a ranking factor. Yet, it seems that Twitter data influences the SERPs and thus might have a direct impact on search engine visibility.

10 SEO Tips to Remember When Building Your Site – Let us assume that, just like everyone else, you are building a website–after all, the Web is where it is all happening now. As soon as your website goes live–and especially while you are still in the design and development phase–you need to make sure your site’s content will be found!

Web Performant WordPress (or… How I Increased My WordPress Performance and Got My Page Loads to Under 1 Second) – Since seeing those results, I only think about Web Optimization. I see the web in milliseconds now. If you’re like me and never considered optimization a necessity maybe now is the time to re-evaluate that.

How to Create a Search Engine Friendly Website – Many webmasters complain about their website not ranking well in the SERPs. What they fail to realize is that their website is not search engine friendly. An SEO friendly website contains more than keyword filled Meta tags and content.

Building Backlinks: Techniques You Should Use Daily – There are a lot of ways how to build backlinks – through social bookmarking sites, guest writing, commenting, just being helpful and seen all around your community, but we wanted to drop down it to sections and give you a hand to help building your backlinks right now.

Keyword Research Tips To Help You – Keyword research is probably one of the most important steps you will take when you start your on site optimization for your website. Keyword research when done right can have your website operating like a well oiled inbound marketing machine.

Search Analysis with Google Analytics – Tracking and studying searches on your site is a valuable part of site analytics, but many site owners underestimate the benefit of it. Website search analytics can provide advantageous insights into what people are looking for on your site and also what your site looks like in search engine results.

Does Your Content Know Where Your Audience Is? – One of the first things you need to do when developing your website is to perform research on your target audience. Without it, you won’t know who you are trying to sell to, or how to reach them with your content.

Tutorials

A Beginner’s Guide To Website Copywriting – When writing for the Web, writers should always keep one analogy in mind: the Internet is a jungle and Web users are information foragers within it. Usability expert Jakob Nielsen championed this comparison based on his studies that found that the majority of Internet users only scan websites in their quest to find useful information as quick as possible.

70 Photoshop Tutorials For Text Decoration From 2010 – Photoshop is such a robust tool that every day is a new learning with it. Today we are featuring fresh tutorials on one of its embellishing feature in form of Text Decoration. You can give any style to text you like. It can be a jungle effect or a flowery or musical effect or just a mix and match of two different styles. Enjoy!

Just Plain Brilliant & A Great Read!

TIMELESSNESS – We are definitively against any fashion of design and any design fashion. We despise the culture of obsolescence, the culture of waste, the cult of the ephemeral. We detest the demand of temporary solutions, the waste of energies and capital for the sake of novelty.

The Creativity Trigger – Our creative thinking is quite dependent on technology and our connection to others. Take a moment to consider to what extent we are connected: Twitter, Facebook, Dribbble, Forrst, blah blah blah… I don’t have to go on. That connection to the community is something we tap into everyday. We rely on it for knowledge and inspiration.

It Isn’t Minimalism - What is minimalism? The New Oxford American Dictionary on my Mac provides the following definition: minimalism |ˈminəməˌlizəm| ~ noun

The Creative vs. The Marketing Team: Yin And Yang, Oil And Water – I hate the division represented in this title. It’s the major stumbling block in modern business. Power struggle is never constructive, and it at least doubles workforce effort at a time when streamlined is crucial for a positive ROI. You can spell “team” from the word “marketing,” but I’ve yet to see a sense of it in marketing.

50 Useful Articles and Resources You May Have Missed – When it comes to online tutorials and articles, you have to be very careful in choosing the right one from tens of thousands of articles you find as you are seeking help in the Web. So today we present nice articles and tutorials which are easy to understand and will surely add to your knowledge.

Tips for More Effective Business Meetings – Whether we like it or not, most of our professional lives are going to have their fair share of time spent in meetings. Be it with our coworkers or clients, a measurable fraction of our working lives will more than likely be taken up in an engaged discussion of tactics, projects, progress, etc.

Drawing the Line: 6 Things You Shouldn’t Tolerate in Projects - I was pretty proud when I netted my first clients as a freelancer. Wow! Someone is actually willing to give me their money and have me design their site? I was ecstatic that someone had picked me out of all the talented designers out there. But my joy didn’t last very long.
