14 Free and Fresh High-Quality Fonts (No.3 – 2012)

In this last month there have been a lot of new and fresh high-quality fonts published, again. I have made a selection of fonts that are designed to be well suited for web as well for print, in particular for the use in headlines, logo and flyer designs.

Some of these new fonts come in more styles, so you can embed these fonts in your web designs or use them as a corporate typeface. As ever, the main priority in selecting these fonts for this collection was the readability, diversity in weights and styles, number of characters or a specific reason to use this font for e.g. headlines or in Poster designs.

So let’s cut the crap and show you some fresh font goodness ..

Designosaur (2 styles)

Totally new sans serif font that is intended for website designers and bloggers! Designosaur comes in two flavors, namely a regular and italic style and can be downloaded as TTF or OTF.

Quattrocento Sans (4 styles)

Quattrocento Sans is a classic, elegant and sober typeface family. Warm, readable and not intrusive. It’s the perfect sans-serif companion for Quattrocento. The wide and open letterforms and large x-height make it very legible for body text at small sizes. All the tiny details that only shows up at bigger sizes make it also great for display use. Quattrocento Sans v2.00 was released on 8 Feb 2012, it’s now a 4 weights Family.

Homizio (6 styles)

The font ‘Homizio Thin’ has a ‘printed style’ in some glyphs ( like A, M, N, V, W… ), a font family in High Quality True Type. Homizio family is compatible with Windows and Mac. Homizio comes in 6 weights: light, thin, regular, medium, bold and black. Note: this font has no italic version of the 6 styles mentioned.

Note: you must rename the .ttf files by adding the fontname in front of the rest of the filename, otherwise you will NOT be able to find these fonts in your library.

Belgrad

Inspired by German industry fonts from the late 19th century I created a linear and constructed typeset based on the Futura by Paul Renner, mixed with elements from the Art Nouveau. The Belgrad display-font is set in bold weight and contains all capital letters, numbers and various glyphs.

Sofia Pro

The goal of this new type was to create a sans serif font which give an impression of both modernism, harmony and roundness. These nuances give Sofia a harmonious and sensible appearance for both texts and headlines.

This typeface is a complete redesign of Sofia initially designed in 2008. this typeface supports a wide range of languages with more than 500 glyphs. This Light version is the only free weight you can download, the rest of the weights of this new version (OpenType features) can be bought.

Prosto

A beautiful new Sans serif font, has more then 400 glyphs, multilanguage support and could be used as in titles, as in body text. This font was created during a 6 month collaboration by two designers in Russia, Jovanny Lemonad and Pavel Emelyanov. They wanted to make a modern ‘accidental grotesque,’ useful for logos and presentations.

Amble (8 styles)

Punchcut designed Amble from scratch for a mobile handset environment. Amble is a nice looking and highly legible font family available to download free. The font is available in light condensed, light, regular, bold weights all with matching italics. Amble is like a slightly more open version of Verdana.

Inspired by the proportions of the 16th President of the USA, and advertisements/playbills of the 1800s, Abraham Lincoln is a humanistic display face with noderate contrast and sturdy serifs.

Overlock (7 styles)

The special thing about these forms is the warm feeling that they give to your text, because of the particular rounded glyph shapes that emerge. As a result, the Overlock typeface family is great for titles and short texts in magazine style layouts. It looks its very best at bigger sizes.

It comes in three weights, Regular, Bold and Black, each with a true italic. It has two set of numbers and small caps which are available as a sister family. Overlock is designed in december 2011.

Ledger Regular

The austere and concise personality and flexibility make it a real multiple-purpose typeface. The letter forms are distinguished by a large x-height, sufficient stroke contrast, robust but elegant wedge-like serifs and terminals. These features have been specially designed to reach maximum of readability. Suitable for use in corporate ID, advertising and display typography. Also available as Google Webfont.
