In this second Article of this month’s SepTumblr Series, where we’re exploring the microblogging platform Tumblr, I want to share some of the best and free Tumblr Themes you can download from the official Theme Garden from the Tumblr site. As mentioned in our previous Article, Tumblr is a really useful microblogging platform for people easy to share text, photos, URLs, music, and video clips.
Why should you use Tumblr? First of all, Tumblr is absolutely free to use and doesn’t require any installation of software because you can host your blog theme directly on one of Tumblr’s servers (after signing up you always have the option to set up a custom domain name). Second of all because of its flexibility, power and simplicity .. Once your account is set up, you can start posting right away!
Users can follow other users, or choose to make their tumblelog private and also just like Twitter you can post a tumblelog from your browser, by e-mail or with your smart-phone .. So if you want to start blogging but don’t have much time to write long articles then Tumblr is the best place for you, where you can’t only write your thoughts but you can also share images, videos and audio very easy.
But what I most definitely like about Tumblr is the fact that there are tons of free themes available, and not only on Tumblr’s Theme Garden. Loads of free themes and a growing premium theme marketplace make it easy to find a theme you like, and most are easily customizable even if you don’t know how to code – so it’s accessible for the masses too.
If you’re a designer, a Tumblr Blog could be great to use as a portfolio to show off your best work (photo’s, graphics, video’s or even audio files) or an archive/blog of inspiring stuff found on the internet, .. just like my Tumblr Blog (sorry for the shameless self-promotion ;-P).
